The Assembly of the department took place on May23, from 4pm in the lecture hall M1.
Program was following:
1) Information on the new scheme of lectures according to the new accreditation (Jan Paseka) 2) Brief overview of the running and newly submitted projects (the team leaders) 3) Brief review of the development of the department before the last year of the director's mandate (director) 4) Miscellaneous.

15th mathematical hike - May 19th 2018 |
|

Dear Friends of Mathematics and Hikes,
You are hereby cordially invited to our mathematical hike planned on May 19th 2018.
Meet at ÚAN Zvonařka, bus stop number 42, at 7:50.
We go by bus to Velká Bíteš (the bus is not part of IDS JMK), then go through the valley of "Bílý potok". We go through a finite sequence of fords. The official ending is planned in Veverská Bítýška (27 km). Another possible endindg is at bus stop in Maršov (20 km ... 18 km through the valley of "Bílý potok" + 2 km additional). Return to Brno by bus (zones 100+101+ 2 additional from Veverská Bítýška/ 3 additional from Maršov).

14th mathematical hike - April 14th 2018 |

You are invited to our 14th mathematical hike. It will take place on April 14th 2018.
Start at 09:30 at the tram stop "Vozovna Komín".
We have planned a hike of 12 km going through "Holedná" enclosure and natural reserve "Kamenný vrch".
We hope to see you there!

13th mathematical hike - March 10th 2018 |

Dear Friends of Mathematics and Hikes,
You are invited to our 13th mathematical hike. It will take place on March 10th 2018.
Start at 09:40 at the train stop "Ivančice - město". You can join us going by train from Brno (main train station) - departure at 08:49, zones 100+101+ 4 additional.
We have planned a hike of 19 km going through Dolní Kounice to Moravské Bránice, following the red path. Return to Brno by train (zones 100+101+ 3 additional).

CALL FOR PHD FELLOWSHIPS AT THE DEPARTMENT OF MATHEMATICS AND STATISTICS, MASARYK UNIVERSITY
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Masaryk University invites applications for fellowships for PhD studies, at the date depending on mutual agreement.
The main research areas of the department are:
- Category theory
- Number theory
- Ordered sets
- Semigroup theory
- Geometric complex analysis
- Lie theory and geometric theory differential equations
- Algebraic and geometric structrues of Mathematical Physics
- Geometric aspects of algebraic topology
- Nonlinear differential and difference equations
- Limit periodic and almost periodic systems
- Hamiltonian and symplectic systems
- Calculus of variations and optimal control
- Matematical modelling
- Statistics and data analysis

The fellowships in the amount of 19 000 CZK per month are initially for two semesters with a possibility of extension, conditional on the student's performance. The candidates must hold a Master degree (before starting the PhD studies), or equivalent.
