Friday Feb 16, 2018 - prof. Daniel Kráľ - lecture "Models of Large Networks" PDF Print

Dear colleagues,

We cordially invite you to the public lecture by prof. Daniel Kráľ from University of Warwick, UK, the holder of two ERC grants, whom we would  like to warmly welcome to a full academic position at FI MU in connection  with the *MUNI Award in Science and Humanities* later this year.

His lecture "Models of Large Networks" will be delivered on  ** Friday Feb 16, at 11 - 12h in the lecture room D3 at FI MU. **

Abstract

A graph is a mathematical model of a network of nodes, which can be, e.g., a computer network or a social network. Problems concerning networks of enormous sizes, which more and more often arise in computer science applications, led to a need to find new mathematical tools to represent and analyze large graphs. The theory of graph limits, whose foundations were laid at Microsoft Research about a decade ago, has responded to these challenges by developing analytic models of large graphs.
We will provide a brief self-contained introduction to the theory of graph limits, which will be followed by the exposition of the most major lines of research. We will conclude with presenting solutions of some of the most significant open problems in the area.

Please come in abundant numbers to this truly unique event in the Czech national context! See also the details here.

12th mathematical hike - December 16th 2017 PDF Print

Dear Friends of Mathematics,

You are invited to our 12th mathematical hike. It will take place on December 16th 2017.

Start at 09:13 at the bus stop "Březina, Táborská". You can join us going by bus 201 from the bus stop "Stará osada" (departure at 08:45, zones 100+101+2 additional).

We have planned a hike of 13 km going south (green path) visiting Pekárna cave. Then we want to continue through the valley and leave it to reach the bus stop "Mariánské údolí" (zone 101) following the red path.

We look forward to seeing you.

11th mathematical hike - November 25th 2017 PDF Print

Dear Friends of Mathematics,

You are cordially invited to the 11th mathematical hike. It will take place on November 25th 2017.

Start at 09:05 at the bus stop "Jedovnice, náměstí". You can join us going by bus 201 from the bus stop "Stará osada" (departure at 08:15, zones 100+101+ 3 additional).

We have planned a hike of 21 - 26 km, leaving Jedovnice following the red path past "Bílá skála", then through Ruprechtov to Vyškov. There are more possible endings of the hike: at the railway station in Vyškov (26 km) or at one of bus stops at the pherifery of Vyškov (21 km+) - the right place to end will be chosen depending on time and wishes of participants.

We look forward to seeing you.

Jana Bartoňová and Jonatan Kolegar, organizers
