IBM techexplorer Hypermedia Browser Documentation

Welcome to the documentation for Version 3.0 of the Introductory and Professional Editions of the IBM techexplorer Hypermedia Browser! On these pages we discuss how to use the techexplorer browser and how to customize it for your environment. We also describe how to create documents for techexplorer using the TeX, LaTeX, and MathML markup languages.

New features in Version 3.0 of techexplorer include complete support for the Mathematical Markup Language (MathML) 1.01, a Macintosh version, C++ and Java support for the Document Object Model (DOM) API, a "programmable" web based equation editor, and an ActiveX Control version of techexplorer, a Mathematica add-in and experimental support for Internet Explorer 5.5 behaviors.

Some other features, like printing, are available only in the Professional Edition. These features are marked in the text with the image:

The feature described is only available in the Professional Edition of techexplorer.

The techexplorer Professional Edition has a programming interface for use within Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer that allows you to control techexplorer from Java applets and JavaScript scripts. It also provides an add-in interface that allows you to augment techexplorer so that it can communicate with other applications. The techexplorer Professional Edition includes an ActiveX Control that can be used to integrate interactive mathematics into applications such as Microsoft PowerPoint, Word and Excel.

For those of you who are creating documents for use with techexplorer, we include a discussion of the compatibility of the markup accepted by techexplorer and that defined by TeX, LaTeX, AMS-LaTeX, and MathML. Moreover, we provide a full description of the special markup you can add to your techexplorer documents to create dynamic electronic publications.

Finally, we describe some special aspects of installing the products on different platforms and provide a history of the changes that have taken place in techexplorer between versions.
