Random geodesic walks and Brownian motions on Finsler manifolds
Abstract:
We show that geodesic random walks on a complete Finsler manifold of bounded geometry converge to a diffusion process which is, up to a drift, the Brownian motion corresponding to a Riemannian metric. |

34th mathematical hike - 11th of December 2021 |
|
|
Dear Friends of Hikes and Mathematics,
The 34th mathematical hike is planned on the 11th of December. Start at 9:33 at the "Kamenolom" stop. (49.2218894N, 16.5368919E). The hike is about 15 km long, we will go through the "Podkomorský" forest to the dam. We invite you also to the traditional mathematical carol-singing. (lyrics in czech, though)
Consider your attendance accordingly with the covid situation. The government does not restrict organizing hikes.
All information and photos can be found at https://conference.math.muni.cz/vylety/. (in CZ) Looking forward to see you. Jana Bartoňová and Jonatan Kolegar, organizers Jan Slovák, Director of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics |

Higher theories and monads
Abstract: We extend Bourke and Garner's idempotent adjunction between monads and pretheories to the framework of $\infty$-categories, and exploit this to prove many classical theorems about monads in the $\infty$-categorical setting. Amongst other things, we prove that the category of algebras for an accessible monad on a locally presentable $\infty$ category is locally presentable. We also apply the result to construct examples of $\infty$-categorical monads from pretheories.
